AceShowbiz - The CW has unveiled the first look at new seasons of "The Vampire Diaries" and "The Originals". In the first pictures from "Vampire Diaries" season 7, Damon is drinking solo while his mother Lily and her minions are wreaking havoc in Mystic Falls.

There's a shot showing a pile of bodies on the street, while Stefan and Caroline are trying to get things under control. In another image, Damon and Bonnie are bonding over drinks and probably their sorrow over the loss of Elena.

Executive producer Caroline Dries says that Lily will cause a major problem in the new season."What I love about Lily is that I don't think we ever see her lift a finger on the show. She has a way of being manipulating and calculating and she knows how to push her son's buttons," she tells TV Guide.

"We'll see the brothers start to turn against each other, but they'll catch on and Lily, as much as she loves her sons, has her own agenda. So, she is a villain in that what she wants opposes what our heroes want, but in her mind all she wants is peace and she would love it if everyone would get along."

Ian Somerhalder, meanwhile, claims his character Damon "doesn't get depressed." The actor adds, "He gets even or he gets drunk."

To The Hollywood Reporter, Dries explains how Nina Dobrev's departure would change the direction of the show. "Our show has 500,000 cast members on it, so we have gotten to know them, watch them mature as characters for 130 episodes," she says. "So to fill the void of a main character, it just means seeing people we already know very well a little bit more."

She continues, "This season, the guts of the show is really the Salvatore brothers. And it's really Stefan's relationship with Caroline. ... The show feels like it's still 'Vampire Diaries', but there's this level of maturity to it now. Especially with the presence of Lily and Caroline's character now. She just feels like she's getting more mature and more self-assured of herself. Damon and Stefan are dealing with way more adult problems. The show feels the same, but feels new."

As for "The Originals", the premise of the third season is a war between the progeny of Klaus, Elijah and Rebekah. Klaus is featured with his sire, Lucien (Andrew Lees), in the image. According to star Joseph Morgan, things are going to be complicated between them.

"We learned how to make vampires when my sire was created," he tells EW. "There's definitely a bond there. We owe each other a lot." But Lucien and the other vampires that Klaus turned are not too happy with the fact that he has abandoned them. "There's also this element that it's not just the three of them but they're in contact with a lot of the sire line for each of us so it's like, 'Hey, remember us? All those vampires that you turned who you've now abandoned? Well guess what, we're not too happy about that and here's why,' " Morgan reveals.

"The Vampire Diaries" returns Thursday, October 8 at 8 P.M. ET, followed by the spin-off "The Originals" at 9 P.M. ET on The CW.
