One Direction is indeed taking a break next year. Not so long after reports emerged saying that the band's going on an "extended hiatus" to focus on their respective solo projects, member Niall Horan confirmed the heartbreaking news in a tweet he posted on Monday, August 24.

Horan, however, assured fans in his post that the break wouldn't be the end for One Direction. "Ok so Lots of rumours going round. We are not splitting up, but we will be taking a well earned break at some point next year," he wrote.

"Don't worry though, we still have lots we want to achieve! Can't wait for you to hear all the new music we have for you and to perform," he added in a follow-up tweet.

His bandmate Louis Tomlinson similarly said in his own tweet, "Your support is truly indescribable! It's just a break :) we're not going anywhere !! Promise. Don't worry."

Over the weekend, millions of Directioners learned that the four-piece would be taking at least a 12-month break starting in March to work on their solo projects. Horan, Tomlinson, Harry Styles and Liam Payne, who are currently readying their fifth studio album, reportedly won't embark on a tour for the yet-to-be-titled project.
