"Hansel and Gretel: Witch Hunters 2" is still happening. According to Deadline, Paramount has tapped Bruno Aveillan to helm the sequel to "Hansel and Gretel: Witch Hunters". So far, no cast and release date have been announced.

Bruno is an award-winning commercials director who is known for his blend of cinematic style and groundbreaking effects. He previously helmed some ads for Cartier, Louis Vuitton, Swarovski, Crystals, Audi, Samsung, etc.

Adam McKay, Will Ferrell and Kevin Messick are producing through Gary Sanchez Productions along with Beau Flynn and his FlynnPictureCo.

The "Hansel and Gretel: Witch Hunters" sequel was originally going to be directed by the original helmer Tommy Wirkola. In 2014, he dropped out of the project, citing a weariness with the idea of doing sequels. "I've just decided to not direct 'Hansel & Gretel 2'. I have been lately attached to a few more things, it's just a matter of time and priorities," he told Fangoria.

"I did 'Dead Snow 1', then 'Hansel & Gretel 1', and then 'Dead Snow 2'. I want to do something a little bit different now and not just do sequels," he explained, before adding, "I did write the script and I hope to be involved in it. But yeah, I won't be directing it."

"Hansel and Gretel: Witch Hunters" which starred Jeremy Renner and Gemma Arterton has grossed $226 million worldwide on production cost of $50 million. The movie topped domestic box office in its opening weekend and was a major hit in Brazil, Russia, Germany and Mexico.
