At the San Diego Comic-Con, it was announced that Ethan Embry and Merritt Wever would be joining the cast of "The Walking Dead". Now details of their roles and first look at their characters have been unveiled via Entertainment Weekly.

Embry is playing Carter, whom showrunner Scott M. Gimple says serves as a composite of different people from the original comic. "Ethan plays a combo of a few characters that we actually haven't hit yet or weren't able to hit in other characters," Gimple explains. "He is an Alexandrian, and has been there the whole time, just quite busy."

Emmy-winning actress Wever will portray a comic book character, Dr. Denise Cloyd. In the comics, her skills as a surgeon prove pivotal when [SPOILER ALERT!] Carl gets shot in the head during a zombie attack. It's unclear, though, if the said injury will happen on the TV show.

There's also a fresh look at another new face, Heath (Corey Hawkins), who had been revealed before. He is described as "an eventual Alexandria supply runner, friend to Glenn and love interest to Denise."

Gimple gushes over the "Straight Outta Compton" actor, "He's terrific and I'm so excited to see him bring Heath to life. It's been fun and he dove in with both feet. He's tough and skeptical when the cameras are rolling, and then when they're off he's just like a goofy fan. He's really, really excited to be there."

The new season of "The Walking Dead" debuts October 11 at 9 P.M. on AMC with a supersized, 90-minute episode.
