AceShowbiz - This year's Kennedy Center honorees are announced by Kennedy Center President Deborah Rutter. Filmmaker George Lucas, singer/songwriter Carole King, and actress Cicely Tyson are among the six influential figures chosen for the class of 2015.
They are joined by another actress Rita Moreno, conductor Seiji Ozawa, and rock band the Eagles. They will be feted in a gala ceremony attended by President Obama and the First Lady. It's taped on December 6 and aired later on CBS on December 29.
"When I look at this year's outstanding slate of Honorees, I am struck by a powerful common theme - artists as history-makers, artists who defy both convention and category," Rutter said. "Each Honoree and their career-spanning achievements exemplify a rare quality of artistic bravery."
