'The Expendables' Mobile Game to Be Released in 2016

Lionsgate is teaming up with Millennium Films and Hong Kong-based mobile game developer Fifth Journey to develop a game based on the Sylvester Stallone film franchise.

AceShowbiz - "The Expendables" is getting its own mobile game. Lionsgate has teamed up with Millennium Films and Hong Kong-based mobile game developer Fifth Journey to develop a game based on its "Expendables" movie franchise. The game will be released on mobile phones and tablets in late 2016.

Lionsgate's president of interactive ventures and games Peter Levin made the announcement of the "Expendables" game on Wednesday, July 8. Peter said in a statement, "We're delighted to partner with the incredibly talented and successful Avi Lerner of Millennium Films and the innovative Eric Tan of Fifth Journey to expand the universe of 'The Expendables'."

"Combining a powerful brand, a global fanbase stretching from North America to China and cutting edge technology, 'The Expendables' is the perfect cross-platform property to build into an action-packed mobile game loaded with state-of-the-art features," he added.

Avi Lerner of Millennium Films, meanwhile, said, "With Lionsgate's tremendous marketing prowess and Fifth Journey's game development and publishing savvy, we're fortunate to have innovative and visionary partners who know how to take 'The Expendables' to a new level with a ground-breaking game that will thrill old and new audiences alike."

Lionsgate has launched several other initiatives in the game space. It previously invested in game developer Telltale, which created episodic games based on "The Walking Dead" and "Game of Thrones" series, and Finnish gaming platform Next Games. The studio also partnered with Starbreeze Studios on "John Wick" content and developed TV shows based on games "Candy Crush" and "Titanfall".
