The 22-year-old singer and actress says in a new interview that sexism is an issue that's still alive until now.

AceShowbiz - Debby Ryan has shared her opinion on sexism in the film and music industry. Debby told Entertainment Tonight, "I think it's 100|percent| an issue. But I also think there are so many things that are coming against so many people."

"I will never experience what it's like to be an African-American in the industry. I'll never know what it's like to be a man growing up in this industry and having these standards of manhood and boyhood. I think that we definitely all have our things that we need to fight and come up against that's not fair. And some of us have it significantly worse than others."

"I've had a hard road," the former star of "The Suite Life on Deck" added of her own personal struggles, "I've fought battles that no one will ever know about. I've faced so much heavy criticism, so many double standards, so many expectations, so many unfair kind of treatments and stigmas every single day, but ultimately, it's something that [you can handle]. It's not fair but being able to overcome it only shows that much more strength and character."

Back in March, she told PEOPLE about her abusive relationship. "It was a couple years ago, and things were seemingly amazing," she said at that time, "Career-wise, they were great, and in general life they were great. But then I was in a friendship - kind of a working relationship - and it ended up becoming more and more destructive, and getting emotionally and mentally abusive."
