FOX has picked up two more seasons of the longest-running animated series, bringing the show to its 28th season.

"The Simpsons" are here to stay. The show has been renewed for season 27 and 28, which consist of 22 episodes each, by FOX. With the renewals, the show will reach 625 episodes by 2017.

"I've outlasted [David] Letterman, Jon Stewart and 'McDreamy,' because I have something they don't: a costly 200-donut-a-day addiction," reads a statement from Homer Simpson. The renewals also assure the show's title as the longest-running American animated program.

The renewals don't come as surprise since the show has been a strong performer in ratings, averaging 6.2 million viewers per episode and a 2.9 in the adults 18-to-49 demo. It ranks in the top 10 among Men 18-34 and Male Teens.

Executive producer Al Jean revealed last October that production on the 27th season had already begun.

"The Simpsons" airs Sundays at 8 P.M. ET/PT on FOX.
