"Grey's Anatomy" quickly makes up the number of personnel after losing one of its doctors. Following Patrick Dempsey's departure, the show has cast "The Mentalist" alum Joe Adler to recur in the final two episodes of its 11th season.

Adler's role is still kept under wraps, but according to The Hollywood Reporter it is likely that he will play a new intern at Grey Sloan Memorial hospital. The 22-year-old actor, who also starred in 2014's "The Maze Runner", joins Giacomo Gianniotti who was previously announced to recur this season.

Adler's casting comes after Dempsey's beloved character Dr. Derek Shepherd was killed off on the show last week. He died after his car was hit by a truck.

There was a report that Dempsey was fired because of his "bad behavior" on set. "Shonda [Rhimes] had no other choice but to fire Patrick! He had been showing up late, and was holding up production because he couldn't remember his lines. This was such a departure from Patrick's prior work ethic as he had always been on time, and ready to go," a source told Radar Online.

The actor's rep, however, has denied it and told Gossip Cop, "This story is not true." Indeed, Dempsey himself didn't seem to have any issue with his character being written out of the show. He told Entertainment Weekly, "It was just a natural progression. And the way everything was unfolding in a very organic way, it was like, okay! This was obviously the right time."
