The upcoming third installment of the rebooted "Star Trek" franchise may have gotten a title. According to a scoop from TrekMovie, "Star Trek Beyond" has been registered with the Motion Picture Association of America.

Simon Pegg, who writes the script with Doug Jung, did hint that "Star Trek 3" would take the USS Enterprise into uncharted territory. Justin Lin takes over the helming duty from J.J. Abrams, who's busy with "Star Wars: The Force Awakens".

The film is set to open on July 8, 2016 Stateside. Chris Pine, Zachary Quinto, Anton Yelchin, Karl Urban, and Zoe Saldana reprise their respective roles. They are joined by new member Idris Elba who will play a new original "kickass" character.

Pegg previously said he pulled inspiration from "Star Trek" TV series. "We can invest in it the spirit of the show and get back to the essence of what it is, and so what we're hoping to do is make a Star Trek for today that doesn't forget where it came from," he explained.
