Following the success of his 2012 debut album "Clarity", Zedd is readying a follow-up that he plans to release later this year. The Russian-German DJ recently previewed the project by unveiling its lead single that he recorded with his rumored girlfriend Selena Gomez.

Titled "I Want You to Know", the upbeat club-ready track received positive reviews from music critics. It has peaked at No. 17 on Billboard Hot 100 and at No. 1 on Billboard's Hot Dance/Electronic Songs chart. A music video featuring Gomez as a disco queen was released earlier this month.

To promote the single, Zedd recently visited Los Angeles' 97.1. AMP Radio and explained how he got to work with Gomez, who's now also his Interscope labelmate. He revealed that he first met the former Disney star because he needed to pee.

"I had the day off... and I decided to go buy stuff for my house because I just moved, so I have an empty house, and I had to pee," he told the radio's host Chris Booker. "I had my engineer with me, so I was like, 'I hope they have a bathroom.' He was like, 'Just go to the studio over there,' which was across the street from my studio. He's like, 'They have a bathroom, just go and use that.'"

"So I walk in, and John, the head of our label, who had just signed Selena, was there... He was like, 'Have you ever met Selena?' That was literally the next thing he said... So he introduced me to her, and was like, 'Hey, she's cool, maybe we should make a song together.' And then like a week later, we start working on a song," he continued. "All because I had to pee."

When they were recording the song together, Zedd admitted that he didn't find any problems working with Gomez. "What makes Selena different from a lot of other artists is that she takes directions, and to me that's really important," he said in an interview with MTV. "As a producer, I like to be there when the vocals get recorded and I need the singer to listen to what I say and bring the emotion that I want. And she was really, really great with that."

He added that he also got to learn something from Justin Bieber's ex, saying, "I think what I learned is she's extremely talented with dealing with being in the press all the time and being everywhere and not being bothered by that. I find it extremely inspiring that you can shut off and kind of do your thing and not be bothered by other people."
