Earlier this year, Blomkamp shared "Alien" artwork on his social media page, saying that he was "working on" it, but didn't think he was anymore. In an interview with Uproxx last week. the director opened up about the project. "Basically, what happened was, when 'Chappie' got heavily into post-production, I could take my foot off the gas a bit," he said. "I was thinking about what I wanted to do next and I've been wanting to make an Alien film for like years and years."

Sigourney Weaver stars in previous "Alien" films. It is currently unclear whether she will join upcoming project.
