The movie wins the Grand Jury Prize in U.S. Dramatic, as 'The Wolfpack', 'Slow West' and 'The Russian Woodpecker' are also announced winners in the competitive categories.

AceShowbiz - The 2015 Sundance Film Festival announced the titles which take top prizes in various competitive categories on Saturday, January 31. "Me & Earl & the Dying Girl" came out as a big winner as it took home U.S. Grand Jury Prize and Audience Award. "I want to dedicate this to all the young filmmakers in my hometown of Laredo, Texas," director Alfonso Gomez-Rejon said at the ceremony, as quoted by Deadline.

"Me & Earl" tells the story of a high school student who befriends a classmate who suffers from a stage-four leukemia. The drama received hot response from the audience during screening and prompted a bidding war which eventually was won by Fox Searchlight. The movie is set for release later this year.

"The Wolfpack", meanwhile, was awarded with the U.S. Documentary Grand Jury Prize. "I stalked these kids on the street one day, and here I am. To all those boys, I know you're watching this, and I f**king love you," director Crystal Moselle said. "Slow West", starring Michael Fassbender and Kodi Smit-McPhee, and "The Russian Woodpecker" took home trophies in World Dramatic and World Documentary respectively.

"True Detective" season 1 director Cary Fukunaga presented the U.S. Dramatic Directing Award to Robert Eggers for his work "The Witch". "The thing about this film was how collaborative it was... all of the producers and investors really supported what this film needed in order to make it as good as it needed to be, and I'm so honored," Eggers said of the win.
