Syfy previewed its new series "The Expanse" at the Television Critics Association's winter press tour on Thursday, January 15. The first trailer for the 10-episode thriller has now landed online, giving a look at some issues which occur after mankind moved their civilization into space.

From the writers of "Children of Men" and "Iron Man", the show is set two hundred years in the future. The story follows the case of a missing young woman who brings a hardened detective (Thomas Jane, "Hung") and a rogue ship's captain (Steven Strait, "Magic City") together in a race across the solar system to expose the greatest conspiracy in human history.

"The Expanse" is based on the popular New York Times bestselling book series collectively known as "The Expanse", written by Daniel Abraham and Ty Franck (under the pen name James S. A. Corey). Abraham and Franck will serve as producers for the TV series.

Thomas Jane told reporters about the show at the TCA's press tour, "It's a film noir storyline, at least the way I see it. It's that future noir thing, which is a great word - you guys should all write that down." Syfy's president Dave Howe, meanwhile, dubbed it the network's "most ambitious series to date."

No premiere date is announced for the show yet.
