Lindsay Lohan's holiday trip didn't go as smooth as she planned. The actress was enjoying an exotic vacation in French Polynesia when she contracted Chikungunya, a virus transmitted through mosquito bites.

LiLo told fans she was diagnosed with the virus on Twitter recently. "Before I got chikungunya use [bug] spray please. God bless," she wrote and attached a link to an Instagram photo showing her on a jet ski in the ocean.

Chikungunya, according to World Health Organization, causes fever, joint pain, fatigue and a rash. It is sometimes mistaken for dengue. There is no vaccine to prevent or medicine to treat it and the joint pain may last for months.

Lohan, however, didn't seem to be bothered by the virus. Not letting the illness ruin her holiday, the 28-year-old star tweeted, "Being sick is no fun. But happy new year everyone. Be safe. Love all." She also posted a photo of her posing with some friends and wrote, "In good faith with good people. I refuse to let a virus [affect] my peaceful vacation be safe and happy on the new year all."
