Mariah Carey played the first of six holiday concerts at the Beacon Theatre show in New York City on Monday evening, December 15. Baring her cleavage in a floor-length bejeweled red gown, the singer treated the crowd to a number of Christmas tunes from 1994's "Merry Christmas" and 2010's "Merry Christmas II You".
Carey proved that she's still one of the best singers in the industry despite several unexpected things that happened during that night's concert. At one point, she lost a shoe and continued her performance like nothing had happened while carrying her red heels in one hand and her golden microphone in the other.
She later got emotional on the stage as she took a break from singing holiday songs. She was belting out her hit single "Hero" when tears ran down her face. She didn't explain why she cried although some noted that this would be Carey's first Christmas since splitting from Nick Cannon.
During the same song, Carey abruptly stopped singing when her microphone pack slipped off her gown. "Really? Stop! I'm sorry! Cut! Cut!" she said before an assistant rushed to the stage to help her fix the problem, which she said was caused by "the sweat." She then continued singing the empowering ballad as the audience cheered.
The Monday concert was a part of Carey's "All I Want for Christmas Is You: A Night of Joy and Festivity". After the show, the diva took to Instagram to post a photo of her performance. "Finally got into the holiday spirit tonight & it's only the beginning! Loved celebrating with you! #AIWFCIY #Lambily # MC20," she captioned the pic.
She also shared a video of her singing of "All I Want for Christmas Is You" and wrote, "#AIWFCIY #MC20 opening night at the Beacon theater. Thank you everyone & Merry Christmas!!! #repost."
