The fitness enthusiast, who has been in hiding for months, takes to Facebook to share an update on his condition, saying that he feels 'touched by the outpouring of love and concern.'

AceShowbiz - Richard Simmons has revealed the reason why he did not make an appearance in public for nearly a year. After months of hiding, the fitness enthusiast took to Facebook on Thursday, November 13 to share an update regarding his condition amid reports that a knee injury drove him into depression.

"I am so touched by the outpouring of love and concern I have received today," Simmons wrote. "I have had a tough time dealing with this injury, as it is keeping me from doing what I truly love to do, and that is to teach classes around the world. Keep on sweatin'!"

TMZ previously reported that Simmons was depressed over the knee injury. He stopped coming to his studio Slimmons in Beverly Hills where he regularly taught classes, and was last seen in public at a charity event in January. Simmons, who had a right knee replacement surgery a few years ago, reportedly needed another surgery for the other leg because other treatments didn't work.

Simmons' manager Michael Catalano has also confirmed that his disappearance was due to the injury, but did not share more info regarding his health. "Richard Simmons has been sidelined with a knee injury for the past several months," Catalano said.

"Bewitched" actress Erin Murphy has also expressed her concern in a recent Twitter post. "Thinking about my pal Richard Simmons, who isn't doing too well," she wrote on November 12.
