Bill Cosby challenged fans to create internet meme as a part of a promotion, but his camp's idea backfired. Instead of plastering the photos with witty, funny comments, many people submitting the meme alluded to rape allegations the comedian faced a few years ago.
"Go ahead. Meme me!" read the Twitter post sent out on Monday afternoon, November 10. The post also contained a link to his official site. On Monday night, the meme generator on his official site and the tweet challenging fans to create the meme were removed.
A few years ago, Cosby settled a case against a woman who said the comedian sexually assaulted her. Thirteen other women showed up and made similar allegations. Cosby has denied the alleged conducts.
Recently, news about the alleged assaults re-emerged following Cosby's biography "Cosby: His Life and Times". Late last month, comedian Hannibal Buress called Cosby a rapist during a performance in Philadelphia.
"Thirteen? It's even worse because Bill Cosby has the f***in' smuggest old black man persona that I hate. He gets on TV, 'Pull your pants up black people, I was on TV in the 80s! I can talk down to you because I had a successful sitcom!' Yeah, but you rape women, Bill Cosby, so turn the crazy down a couple notches," Buress said back then.
