A terminally ill fan of Ed Sheeran whom he "married" in a concert last week has passed away. The British redhead took to Twitter on Friday, November 7 to offer condolences after the fan named Katie Papworth lost battle with cancer that day at the age of 19. "So devastated to hear Katie has passed away. Prayers are with her family," he wrote.

The Les Hoey MBE DreamMaker Foundation which arranged Papworth's meeting with Sheeran shared the sad news on their Facebook page. "We have had some sad news this morning Katie Papworth has peacefully passed away in her parents arms. All our thoughts and prayers are with Katie's family at this Sad Time x," the statement reads.

Papworth met the "I See Fire" singer backstage of his concert at Glasgow's SSE Hydro on October 30 and proposed to him. She also gave him a picture she drew before she lost her sight. "Katie, lovely to finally meet my wife," the singer signed the copy.

"Ed loved her artwork and asked if he could keep it for his wall. When she presented the ring he smiled and said, 'I suppose I should say yes. OK.' He made it really special for her and she's since said she needs to think about bridesmaids," Papworth's mother Trish said of the meeting, as reported by Daily Record.
