The fashion world is mourning the death of one of its greatest talent. According to The New York Times, Annette de la Renta confirmed her husband, designer Oscar de la Renta, passed away at the age of 82 on Monday, October 20 at his home in Kent, Conn. The designer was diagnosed with cancer in 2006.

Many fans including some celebrities reacted to the sad news on social media. "RIP iconic designer Oscar De La Renta,who was a big part of 3 of my life's biggest moments.Much love & peace2 his family& all who loved him!" Gloria Estefan tweeted.

"Oscar de la Renta you will be missed and the elegant fashion that you gave us all! May you #RIP A Legend Of Fashion," La Toya Jackson added. Fellow designer Rebecca Minkoff additionally wrote, "Saddened to hear the news about Oscar de la Renta. Thank you for bringing so much beauty into the world #RIP."

"The qualities I most admire in women are confidence and kindness~Oscar de la Renta. Thank you for all the beauty you gave us. #oscardelarenta," Piper Perabo wrote. Ivanka Trump, Rita Wilson, Alyssa Milano and Garcelle Beauvais also offered condolences.

de la Renta dressed many First Ladies including Betty Ford, Nancy Reagan, Hillary Clinton and Laura Bush. He most recently designed a dress worn by Amal Alamuddin on her wedding to George Clooney.

de la Renta was born in Dominican Republic. He later became an apprentice of Cristobal Balenciaga before working with Lanvin in Paris. de la Renta got popular for dressing Jackie Kennedy in the 1960s. He launched his ready-to-wear label in New York in 1965.
