The James Gunn film passed the $700 million mark at the worldwide box office, thanking China for the most part.

"Guardians of the Galaxy" continues to gather accolades and becomes a stand-out movie of the year. The Marvel film jets to the top of the foreign box office this weekend after racking up $23.1 million overseas.
The film owes it to China, the world's second-biggest movie market, for a large chunk of its foreign total. At $69 million, China is now the highest grossing country outside of the United States for "Guardians of the Galaxy".
The good news came on the heels of the report that poor subtitles could hurt the movie's income in China. "Aside from a lot of mistranslations, the subtitles failed to show the original feel of the movie, such as jokes, puns and homophones. We cannot help but doubt the professionalism of the translator," Chinese social media user Gudabaihua who identified at least 80 mistranslations said.
Despite all, "Guardians of the Galaxy" is now Marvel's third most successful film at the worldwide box office behind "The Avengers" and "Iron Man 3" after passing the $700 million mark. The James Gunn-directed film is also in the fourth place of total worldwide gross for any film released in 2014, behind "X-Men: Days of Future Past", "Maleficent" and "Transformers: Age of Extinction".
