Robert Downey Jr. is joining Chris Evans in "Captain America 3", Variety reports. Sources close to the situation say that the Iron Man depicter is in final talks to play billionaire Tony Stark in the third "Captain America" movie which is set to start production in early 2015 for a May 6, 2016 release. Downey already signed up for the upcoming "Avengers: Age of Ultron" and "The Avengers 3".
"Captain America 3" will be based on the storyline of Civil Wars which will pit Stark against Evans' Steve Rogers. The pair will feud over the Superhero Registration Act which requires people with super powers to register their identities to the government. Stark agrees with the registration while Rogers is against it, citing civil liberties.
Downey recently hinted at the exciting project. "Just between us, no, but I'm going to do other stuff with Marvel. I'm still going to be involved with Marvel and there's gonna be plenty of fun stuff to happen," he said during an appearance on "Late Show with David Letterman".
Anthony and Joe Russo, who directed "Captain America: The Winter Soldier", will be back to their positions in "Captain America 3". Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely work on the script.
