Anne Hathaway: 'I Can't Tell You the Amount of Times I've Been Told I'm Not Sexy'

The 'Devil Wears Prada' actress reveals that she has been told many times that she's not sexy enough for movie roles during the journey of her career.

AceShowbiz - Anne Hathaway opens up about her struggles before having a great success in an interview with Harper's Bazaar for its November "Daring" issue. The "Alice in Wonderland" actress tells the magazine, "Even though I've had great success, touch wood, it hasn't been easy."

She continues, "A lot of people have told me, 'You're not this and so can't play that,' and I can't tell you the amount of times I've been told I'm not sexy. I just go: 'I'm a lot of things. Just because I don't wear my sexiness overtly doesn't mean that I can't become that girl for a role. That's what I do; I become things. Use your imagination, buddy.' "

"So in terms of not listening to what other people told me about who I was as an actress and then really pursuing it, I think I've been daring in that way," Anne adds.

The 31-year-old actress also opens up about her "fumbled" speech when she won an award for Best Supporting Actress for her work in "Les Miserables". "One of the things I've been accused of is being inauthentic," she says, "And they were right - but not for the reason they thought."

"I couldn't tie this moment to what I really wanted to say," she continues, "And that's on me, because Lupita did it." She refers to Lupita Nyong'o's moving speech after winning Best Supporting Actress for "12 Years a Slave" earlier this year.

Anne also recalls her 2013 Oscar dress drama when she wore the now-infamous Prada gown. She says that at first she planned to wear a different gown but opted to switch it because her "Les Miserables" co-star Amanda Seyfried turned out to be wearing "a lilac version" of her dress.

Anne says when the Prada gown arrived at her home, she was like "Wow! I can do this. It's beautiful. It's appropriate. It's modern. It's minimal." She adds, "I look in the mirror, turn to Adam (her husband,) and say, 'It looks like my nipples are hard.' He says, 'You look beautiful. Your nipples look pointy. The red carpet's about to close. We gotta go.' "

When asked about the most daring outfit she ever wore, Anne replies, "I f**king think that pink Oscar dress! Now that you know the backstory, that was by far in a way the most daring dress I have ever worn. It maybe didn't look it, but that was it."
