The homeless man, who accompanied Miley and accepted the Moonman on her behalf at the 2014 MTV VMAs in August, has been sentenced to six months in jail after violating his probation.

AceShowbiz - Jesse Helt, a homeless man who accompanied Miley Cyrus to the 2014 MTV Video Music Awards, was sentenced to six months in jail on Tuesday, October 7, The Associated Press reported. Jesse received the sentence after violating his probation stemming from his arrest in Oregon in 2010.

According to the site, Jesse was handcuffed after he and his lawyer Whitney Boise, who was hired by Miley, asked Judge Monte S. Campbell for leniency. "I'd like to be viewed as a good person, not as a nuisance to society," Jesse said. However, Whitney failed to ask the judge to give Jesse one more opportunity to meet his probation rather than the jail sentence. Jesse will get credits for 57 days he had served.

Whitney claimed Jesse was raised in poverty and was not accustomed to stability and discipline. He also said his client's appearance with Miley inspired him to help other homeless youth while hoping to enroll in community college. Whitney said of Jesse, "In a few words, he wants to change his life. He wants to make a difference."

Jesse gained worldwide attention after Miley let him accept the Moonman and deliver the acceptance speech on her behalf at the VMAs in late August. A few days after his VMA appearance, Jesse's past arrests in Oregon emerged. He then turned himself in to Polk County jail and posted 10 percent of his $25,000 bail.
