Bryan Singer is returning to direct "X-Men: Apocalypse", Deadline reports. The director, who worked on the first two installments and recently was back for "X-Men: Days of Future Past", has been attached to the position since a while but now he reportedly has closed the deal with 20th Century Fox .

Singer's position in "Apocalypse" reportedly was in question after a lawsuit alleging sexual abuse was launched shortly before "Days of Future Past" premiered. The lawsuit, however, was dropped last month.

"X-Men: Apocalypse" is set to take place in the 1980s. James McAvoy, Michael Fassbender, Jennifer Lawrence, Hugh Jackman and Nicholas Hoult will reprise their roles as Charles Xavier, Magneto, Mystique, Wolverine and Beast respectively. Younger version of Jean, Cyclops and Storm will also make appearances in the upcoming mutant flick.

" 'Apocalypse' will have more of the mass destruction that 'X-Men' films, to date, have not relied upon. There's definitely now a character and a story that allow room for that kind of spectacle... I don't want to get too specific, but we'll introduce familiar characters in a younger time. That'll be fun to show the audience. I call these movies in-between-quels. It's a mind-f*** sometimes in terms of where things fall in the timeline!" Singer told Total Film magazine earlier this year. Production is set to start in April 2015 and the movie is due out in the U.S. on May 27, 2016.
