Obi-Wan Kenobi May Get Standalone 'Star Wars' Film
Movie

Due to the Jedi's popularity with the franchise's fans, Lucasfilm reportedly is considering to give him his own movie.

AceShowbiz - The mystery surrounding "Star Wars" spin-offs is getting thicker with the new report that another one is being plotted. The rumors that Han Solo, Boba Fett and X-Wing would get standalone movies are followed with another that says fan favorite Obi-Wan Kenobi will get the same treatment.

According to the new report from Making Star Wars, fan votes have driven Lucasfilm to develop the project. "I've heard from quite a few people now that an Obi-Wan Kenobi movie is in the works," a source told the site. "For the spinoff movies they were initially going to stay away from any Jedi or Sith characters. But I'm hearing now that because of the popularity of Obi-Wan (fans recently voting for him on the official website, etc.) that an art team is now working with a writer on concepts for an Obi-Wan movie."

The character has appeared in the original film, the prequels, as well as the Expanded Universe fiction. Ewan McGregor portrayed the Jedi in the prequel movies and is rumored to make a cameo in the upcoming "Star Wars Episode VII". The actor himself once said he would love to return in a spin-off.

"I'd be up for it. If they need me to be Obi Wan Kenobi, I'd be happy to do it," he told Total Film last year. "Who knows what the story would be? How could I be Obi Wan Kenobi? Oh, I'm in the force? With Liam [Neeson]? We're in there together? I'm up for it anyway. I will don the cloak again."

Lucasfilm has lined up Gareth Edwards and Josh Trank to direct spin-offs which are yet announced. "Star Wars Episode VII" premieres in theaters December 18, 2015.
