Theo James has been selected to continue the "Underworld" franchise. The "Divergent" star has signed up to reprise his role as Vampire David in the fifth film as original star Kate Beckinsale steps down from her role as Selene.

Beckinsale starred in all previous films while James appeared as her ally in the fourth film "Underworld: Awakening". He will now be the central character in the new film which is treated as a reboot instead of a sequel. James is to star opposite two new female characters which casting is still underway.

Shooting is scheduled to begin in spring. Cory Goodman has been hired to write the script. Tom Rosenberg and Gary Lucchesi are producing for Lakeshore Entertainment.

James did not propel his name until he starred opposite Shailene Woodley in "Divergent". He has completed filming of the sequel "The Divergent Series: Insurgent" and is also attached to star in the two "Allegiant" films.
