Denzel Washington has secured a role in a remake of John Sturges' classic western movie "The Magnificent Seven". Antoine Fuqua who is set to serve behind the lens for the remake confirmed the actor's casting in a recent interview with Variety.
It will mark their third collaboration. The duo first worked together in a 2001 crime thriller "A Training Day" which earned Washington a Best Actor title at the 74th annual Academy Awards. Their second collaboration is "The Equalizer", an adaptation of a TV series of the same name, due September 26 in U.S. theaters.
Fuqua explained why he loved working with the actor, "Denzel's all about the work. He's all about the acting. He's an actor. He'll tell you himself, 'I'm not a movie star, celebrity, something else, I'm an actor.' He steps on a set that's what he is and that's what he gives you. He gives his heart."
Based on Akira Kurosawa's 1954 classic "Seven Samurai", the original film follows a gang of American gunmen hired to protect a small Mexican town from a group of bandits. The 1960 pic starred Yul Brynner, Steve McQueen, Charles Bronson, James Coburn, Robert Vaughn, Brad Dexter, and Horst Buchholz.
Tom Cruise was once attached to play one of the cowboys in the upcoming remake, but the "Edge of Tomorrow" actor bowed out of the project as he's prepping for "Mission: Impossible V" and "Go Like Hell".
Aside from gearing up to do the "Magnificent Seven" revamped version, Washington is also campaigning to play the next James Bond. During a Reddit AMA recently, he said, "The next James Bond? They better hurry up! Yes I would! Who's doing James Bond now..Daniel Craig! Did they shoot another one? Everybody should tweet Denzel is James Bond! Send it to the studio! We start the Denzel is Bond campaign today!"
Hastag #DenzelIsJamesBond did become one of the trending topics on Twitter shortly afterwards.
