Some New Yorkers had an unforgettable subway ride when the Broadway cast of "The Lion King" recently boarded on the same train and treated them with an a capella rendition of "Circle of Life". The performance happened while the cast members were taking a break between shows in late June.

As seen in video below, some passengers looked surprised as a female cast member who appeared to have been reading a book suddenly burst into the song's opening lines. Her castmates later joined her while some passengers sang along and took pictures and videos with their phones.

"The Lion King" last year became Broadway's first show to reach $1 billion. To commemorate the milestone, the cast members decided to play the surprise performance on the New York City subway which served more than 1 billion commuters last year.

The subway performance came just months after the Australian cast of "The Lion King" belted out the same song for passengers on a Virgin flight.
