AceShowbiz - Chris Brown has got a September trial date for his misdemeanor assault charges which stemmed from an altercation in Washington D.C. last October. The case goes to trial after the "With You" singer rejected a plea deal during a court appearance on Wednesday, June 25.
"They wanted him to read from a script that wasn't true," Brown's lawyer Mark Geragos told media outside the court. A source additionally told NY Daily News that prosecutors wanted Brown, who went to the court in a black leather jacket over an all-white outfit and a black tie, to "accept responsibility."
According to the source, Brown would not go to jail or be placed in supervised release if he took the plea deal. Prosecutors reportedly agreed not to add extra jail time because Brown already served nearly 12 weeks for probation violation in connection to the case. The trial for the Washington D.C. assault case is now scheduled for September 8.
Brown and his bodyguard Christopher Hollosy were accused of hitting a man who tried to take a selfie with the star and two female fans outside the W hotel in October. Hollosy, who was also present in the Wednesday court session, was convicted of misdemeanor assault in April but he hasn't been sentenced.
