The Best Director at 2014 Academy Awards says that 'projects based around lots of visual effects don't attract' him.

Alfonso Cuaron broke his silence regarding rumor that he would direct "Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them". The "Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban" director said to Spanish news agency EFE that he wouldn't pursue the "Harry Potter" spin-off and explained why.
"[Directing 'Prisoner of Azkaban'] was a very beautiful experience for me," he said. "I have a lot of love for that universe and I tremendously admire J.K. Rowling, but today, for the present, projects based around lots of visual effects don't attract me. I'm coming out of a five-year process of doing visual effects and now I sort of want to clean my palate of that a little bit."
Cuaron just came off directing "Gravity" which was strongly lauded for its 3D visual effects. Starring Sandra Bullock and George Clooney, it dominated the 86th Academy Awards winning seven prizes including Best Director for him.
Besides being rumored to direct "Fantastic Beasts" for Warner Bros., the director is reported being in talks to helm "The Overlook Hotel", a prequel to Jack Nicholson's 1980 horror film "The Shining". Glen Mazzara, the former showrunner on "The Walking Dead", is in talks to write the script.
