Philip Seymour Hoffman's death has left the future of one of Showtime's projects uncertain. Just two weeks ago, the network announced that the late actor would star on its upcoming comedy "Happyish", which was dubbed "a very personal comedy starring one of the really great actors of our time."

Now a source says that the comedy is "unlikely" to continue without Hoffman. The source tells E! News that the 46-year-old actor "drives every scene of the pilot," which trailer was recently shown at TCA winter press tour. "It is hard to imagine a way in which it could go on," the source says.

Showtime reportedly greenlit the show, which had been in the works for more than two years, after Hoffman agreed to do it following a very lengthy courtship. "His role would have to be recast and there weren't any other actors in serious consideration aside from Philip," the source adds. "If the show does move forward, the premiere would be delayed as pilot would need to be reshot."

Showtime has not made a decision regarding the future of "Happyish", which would center on Hoffman's Thom Payne, a successful but self loathing creative director at a New York ad agency. The network, however, has released a statement to pay tribute to the "Moneyball" star.

"Philip Seymour Hoffman was one of our generation's finest and most brilliant actors. He was also a gifted comedic talent. It was a great privilege and pleasure to work with him and we are all absolutely devastated by this sudden loss. Our thoughts go out to his family at this very difficult time," the statement reads.

Hoffman was found dead of an apparent drug overdose on Sunday, February 2 in his New York City apartment. A law enforcement source said the Oscar winner, who had opened up about his addiction problems in the past, was found on the bathroom floor, dressed in shorts and a T-shirt, with a needle sticking out of his left arm.
