Grammy Award-winning performer Usher will curate Macy's 4th of July fireworks display in New York City. The 34-year-old entertainer will work on the concept, music and design for the 37th annual fireworks show and will provide the cues and direction for the pyrotechniques that will be lit from barges off Manhattan to go along with the musical scoring.

It's the first time that Macy's has worked with an artist for its annual extravaganza, entitled "It Begins with a Spark", which will air after the annual concert on NBC. The music will feature Usher's own hits plus those of other artists like Frank Sinatra, Jimi Hendrix, Swedish House Mafia and Rihanna.

"I'm really excited to add my flavor to the Macy's 4th of July Fireworks, the largest show in America," Usher said via a press statement. "As an artist, it's important that I expand creatively into new areas. Working on the score and fireworks design has been a great experience that's allowed me to share my voice in a new way," the hitmaker said.

"The 4th of July is a collective celebration of freedom and I hope that through the music and visuals, I've helped express the energy and passion of our nation," the mentor on "The Voice" added. "I can't wait for the countdown; we're getting ready to surprise the audience with the ultimate Independence Day party."
