AceShowbiz - A long-awaited sequel to Rawson Marshall Thurber's 2004 comedy "Dodgeball: A True Underdog Story" is finally confirmed to be in the works. Fox and Red Hour run by Ben Stiller and Stuart Cornfeld have hired "Joy Ride" writer Clay Tarver to provide the script for the second film.

The Hollywood Reporter learns that Stiller and Vince Vaughn have been on board the project. Sources tell the site that the second film will have the two actors teaming up to fight an even bigger threat. It is not clear what kind of threat the gag men will encounter in the dodgeball arena.

"True Underdog Story" centers on a rivalry between Stiller's White Goodman and Vaughn's Peter LaFleur. Owning a small gym "Average's Joe", LaFleur gathers a group of misfits and enters a dodgeball tournament to earn some money needed to prevent Goodman from purchasing the gym.

Released on June 18, 2004, the first film received positive reviews and was a commercial success. Debuting to $30 million, the film eventually took in $167 million worldwide on a $20 million budget. In addition to Stiller and Vaughn, it starred Justin Long, Christine Taylor, Stephen Root, Jason Bateman and Rip Torn.
