Palillo's longtime partner Joseph Gramm found his body at around 4 A.M. and immediately called ambulance. Palillo was rushed to the hospital in which he was pronounced dead. One of Palillo's colleagues at G-Star School of the Arts said the actor appeared to be in good health but he was a heavy smoker.

Palillo's Horshack was known for calling out "Ooh ooh ooh, Mr. Kotter" on the show which also starred John Travolta. Fellow cast Robert Hegyes died in January this year at the age of 60.
