Movie

Malone will play ax-wielding tribute Johanna Mason who will align herself with Katniss Everdeen at the 75th Annual Hunger Games.

AceShowbiz - Jena Malone has accepted the offer to play Johanna Mason in "The Hunger Games" sequel, "The Hunger Games: Catching Fire". Mason is a crucial character who will appear also in the trilogy's last installment, "Mockingjay".

In the Suzanne Collins book series, Mason is a former Hunger Games winner from District 7 who uses an ax to kill her enemies. She participates in the 75th Hunger Games when past winners are forced to make a comeback for Quarter Quell. She pretends to be a weakling so nobody will see her as a threat but she later proves herself to be a vicious killer.

Mason, psychologically damaged from her experience, becomes a strong ally for Katniss Everdeen, Peeta Mellark, and Finnick Odair. Another returning tribute, Wiress, from District 3 will also be an ally for Katniss. Veteran actress Amanda Plummer is filling the role.

"The Hunger Games: Catching Fire" opens November 22, 2013 directed by Francis Lawrence. Filming will start in September.
