"American Idol" want to make sure they have searched in every nook and corner of America for its season 12 talents. On Monday, July 23, "American Idol Small Town Audition Bus Tour", "Nominate An Idol" program and online auditions were introduced as three new ways contestants can enter the competition.

There will be 10 towns visited by a mobile audition bus next month. They are Idaho Falls, ID; Billings, MT; Casper, WY; Rock Rapids, IA; Iowa City, IA; Bowling Green, KY; Clarksdale, MS; Joplin, MO; Dodge City, KA; and Grand Junction, CO. More details about the location and time will be revealed at later time.

Another twist in the upcoming season is the surprise element from a talent who may not think of auditioning. Family and friends are allowed to nominate individuals who they think could be the next American Idol. A video or URL of the nominee singing solo or a cappella must be submitted via online registry and the film crew will surprise the chosen candidates on location.

Meanwhile, the online audition gives hopefuls opportunity to audition by submitting a video of them singing one of the songs from the approved list. One person is limited to submitting one video and it must be in a cappella. The online auditions will open on Wednesday, August 1 and close on Tuesday, August 14.

"American Idol" returns in January with new judging panel.
