The studio announces that it will work on the third 'Kung Fu Panda' movie as well as a big screen treatment for the famous penguin quartet in the 'Madagascar' film series.

DreamWorks Animation has shared some good news at Comic-Con on Thursday, July 12. The studio has announced, during its presentation at the Hilton Bayfront's Indigo Ballroom, that it would develop a third "Kung Fu Panda" movie as well as a spin-off to the "Madagascar" film series.
Bill Damaschke, DreamWorks CCO who served as the panel's moderator, confirmed the "Kung Fu Panda 3" project as a follow-up to "Kung Fu Panda 2" which successfully bagged $665 million worldwide in 2011. Nonetheless, Damaschke didn't announce the start date and the release date for the upcoming Jack Black-starring animated film.
As for the untitled Madagascar spin-off, director Tom McGrath announced that the story would revolve around the franchise's famous penguins, Skipper, Kowalski, Private and Rico. The scheming quartet would get their own movie sometime in 2015.
The fan-favorite penguins had already been adapted into the small screen by Nickelodeon. The series was called "The Penguins of Madagascar" and revolved around the quartet's adventure in the New York zoo along with King Julien, Maurice and Morth.
In addition to announcing the spin-off project, McGrath, who also voiced Skipper, dished on his experience in making "Madagascar 3: Europe's Most Wanted" which is still playing nationwide. "We really wanted to do something psychedelic in 'Madagascar 3' so kids could experience drugs without taking them," he said.
The DreamWorks panel at Comic-Con was held to promote the studio's upcoming outings, "Rise of the Guardians" and "The Croods".
