Days leading to the U.S. release of her second studio album "Born to Die", Lana Del Rey opens up a mysterious disappearance of her first effort from iTunes. Contrary to speculations that she wanted to distance herself from her past, she says she actually yanked it off the market for a re-release.
The "Video Games" singer tells BBC News that she has recently bought back the rights to the record, and has already set a timeline to re-release it later this year. "I'm re-releasing it," the Internet meme confirms before hinting the due date, "Maybe in late summer."
Talking about her early days as Lizzy Grant, Del Rey recalls, "I had signed to an independent label but they couldn't fund the release of it." Back then, she spent only $10,000 to make the album with David Kahne, a producer who once worked with Paul McCartney and Regina Spektor.
"People act like it's so shrouded in mystery, the 'forgotten terrible album'," Del Ray states, "But if you look on YouTube, all 13 tracks are available with millions of views, so it's not like no one's hear them. We were all proud of it. It's pretty good."
