Emmy Award winner Harry Morgan has passed away. The actor, who was famous for his portrayal of wisecracking Colonel Sherman T. Potter on "M*A*S*H", died at the age of 96 on Wednesday, December 7 at his Brentwood home in Los Angeles, his daughter-in-law Beth Morgan confirmed.

Beth additionally told the Associated Press that the Detective Bill Gannon of crime series "Dragnet" had recently been treated for pneumonia. She also remembered the late actor as "a very gentle and loving father-in-law". Saying that he was "side-splittingly funny," she added, "He was very humble about having such a successful career."

Born Harry Bratsberg in Detroit in 1915, Harry had four children with his first wife, Eileen, who died in 1985 after 45 years of marriage. He is survived by his second wife, Barbara Bushman; three sons, Christopher, Charles and Paul; eight grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. One of his sons, Daniel, died in 1989.

Harry made his way to Hollywood in 1942 after working on stage. One of his earliest films was "The Ox Bow Incident" in 1943 with Henry Fonda.
