'Vampire Diaries' Season Finale Preview: Dying Damon Pleads Forgiveness

Stefan promises not to let his brother die, while Damon, haunted by his memories of Katherine, tries to seduce Elena.
Damon is dying in the ultimate episode of "The Vampire Diaries" season 2, and Stefan is trying to save him. While waiting for his fate, Damon gets his memories of Katherine in 1864 mixed with the reality of Elena in the present day.

"He does try to seek her forgiveness and he desperately wants it. And as we've seen, he now has the extra reason, with the werewolf bite. 'I can't die with you hating me'," executive producer Julie Plec said of what Damon gets through in the season finale. "He needs to come to terms with all the decisions that he's made in the year - and not just in the year, but since Katherine seduced him 145 years ago."

Meanwhile, Stefan pays a terrible personal price for his attempt to prevent a tragedy, and Sheriff Forbes makes a deadly mistake while trying to keep everyone safe. Also in the episode, more than one life hangs in the balance as the consequences of the sacrifice ritual play out to a horrifying conclusion.

"As I Lay Dying" will air Thursday, May 12 at 8/7c on The CW. The show has been renewed for a third season.
