The next episode of "The Vampire Diaries" is titled "Daddy Issues" for one paternal figure makes a come back. John Gilbert's return to Mystic Falls comes as an unhappy surprise to Elena, Jenna and Damon. It was revealed in the first season that David Anders' character John aka Uncle John is Elena's biological father.

It is Stefan who brings John back to town, much to Elena's frustration. "She feels like everyone around her is against her," Nina Dobrev told Zap2It.
