After Robert Downey Jr. dropped out of "Cowboys and Aliens" to focus on his upcoming "Sherlock Holmes" sequel, DreamWorks Pictures and Jon Favreau have been looking for their new lead actor. Latest news mentioned that they are trying to approach Daniel Craig to tackle the major character.
According to Variety, the 41-year-old has been in talks with the studio and the helmer to step in the film and play Zeke Jackson. However, Craig's representative claimed it was too early to comment on whether the English actor would star in the sci-fi movie.
Daniel Craig gained recognition through his performances in several movies, such as "Lara Croft: Tomb Raider" and "The Golden Compass". He made his debut as the depicter of James Bond in the 2006 film "Casino Royale".
"Cowboys and Aliens" will center its story on an Old West battle between the Apache and Western settlers, including a former Union Army gunslinger named Zeke Jackson, that is interrupted by a spaceship crashing into the prairie near Silver City, Ariz. Written by Roberto Orci, Alex Kurtzman and Damon Lindelof with Steven Spielberg among the producers, the action film is planned for 2011 release in the U.S.
