'The story revolves around a young, modern and professional woman who must balance her business and family relationships,' the mother of two described the plot of her not-yet-titled series.

AceShowbiz - Whispers about Nicole Richie coming back to the place that brought her fame are now coming true. Variety reports that Richie is plotting a return to primetime television after going vacuum from the show business for several years to tend to her family which includes a living partner Joel Madden, one daughter and one son.

Richie, previously starring in reality series "Simple Life" with BFF Paris Hilton, will be headlining a new scripted series which is still in development under ABC. It is a half-hour sitcom that presents Richie as a "professional woman with complicated family relationships".

Her character, which is actually mirroring her real life, struggles to figure out what role she'll take as her life and her family evolve. The story actually came from Richie herself. That is why she is going to be credited as the producer along with Warren Bell and Jamie Tarses.

In a post on her blog Richie wrote, "Lately, I have been surrounded by many different women of all ages and walks of life. It amazes me to watch and observe how many different ideas there are about what a woman's role should be in this era. I've taken these fascinating ideas, and compiled them into something that I think will be very special (and funny!). We're still in the very early stages and I can't wait to share more with you soon!"

The pilot script which is written by "Californication" scribe Daisy Gardner, will be supervised by Bell. There is no target date yet for the release.
