An avid supporter of People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA), Eva Mendes helps the organization exposing the animal cruelty behind fur trade in a bid to urge people to stop wearing fur. In a video, for which she lends her voice to give detailed explanation about the issue, she is quoted as stating, "Millions of animals are killed for their pelts each year. ... The thing is, I didn't always know how animals were killed for their fur, and I even wore fur once myself. But when I learned how cruel the fur industry is - and that there are no laws protecting these animals - I swore that I'd never wear it again."
The movie siren goes on explaining how trappers usually strangle, beat, or stomp animals to death in order to avoid damaging their fur. Worse, some animals are even skinned alive or have their throats cut while they are still conscious. A scene wherein rabbits are killed in China for their fur is shown in the footage. In response to the particular animal cruelty, Eva thus says, "Please join me today as we go behind the scenes of the international fur trade, and find out how you can look glamorous without supporting animal suffering."
"At a time when there is so much violence in the world, this is one type of violence that all of us can help stop - by being informed consumers," she concludes. The 35-year-old actress, moreover, has an interview with PETA about what makes her interested in supporting the cause.
Eva Mendes is one of the dozens of celebrities who have joined PETA to speak out against fur. Charlize Theron, Christina Applegate, Roselyn Sanchez, Pamela Anderson, Nia Long, and Christy Turlington are just some of them.
