'Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen' opens strong in U.K. and Japan over the weekend, grossing 20 million dollars in only 846 theaters in both countries.

AceShowbiz - Paramount Pictures' "Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen" debuted atop the international circuit over the weekend. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the movie has drawn in $20 million from only 846 locations in two key foreign markets, the United Kingdom and Japan.

Reaching the first position in both countries, the follow-up to "Transformers", which is helmed by Michael Bay, made $14.1 million from 517 screens in the U.K. and $5.8 million from 329 sites in Japan. The impressive bows have outnumbered the first film by 71|percent| and 13|percent| in both territories respectively.

In the second position was Sony's "Terminator Salvation". Dominating the overseas charts last weekend, the Christian Bale-starring sci-fi thriller grossed $18.4 million from 9,400 theaters in 74 territories. So far, it has collected an international cume of around $200 million.

Warner Bros.' "The Hangover", in the meantime, came in third. Raking up $30.4 million, it held strongly in U.K., though the ticket sales decreased 16|percent|. It faced a mere 7|percent| decline in Australia, pulling in $2.6 million from 227 scenes. The comedy film also garnered $1.1 million from 342 sites in Russia and $966,000 from 292 scenes in Italy.

"Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen" is scheduled to open wide in the U.S. on Wednesday, June 24. Teaming up once again Shia LaBeouf and Megan Fox as Sam and Mikaela, it also sees the return of Josh Duhamel, Tyrese Gibson and John Turturro, and the joining of Isabel Lucas, Rainn Wilson, Ramon Rodriguez and many others.
