Circulating rumor that Drew Barrymore could end up directing "The Twilight Saga's Eclipse" has been put down as Juan Antonio Bayona has been announced to tackle the helming part of the second "Twilight" sequel. Reporting for the matter was Variety, which came up with the scoop that Summit Entertainment have indeed picked up "The Orphanage" helmer for the pivotal role.
This designation of Bayona as the director for the follow-up to "The Twilight Saga's New Moon" has killed off the possibility of either Drew Barrymore, James Mangold or Paul Weitz taking the part. Summit, which have opted for a different director on each "Twilight" movie, are expected to deliver the official statement anytime soon.
"Eclipse" revolves around Bella as she once again finds herself surrounded by danger. Amidst all the danger, she is forced to choose between her love for Edward and her friendship with Jacob, with the knowledge that her decision has the potential to ignite the ageless struggle between vampire and werewolf. The movie based on the third book in Stephenie Meyer's "Twilight" series is expected to hit U.S. theaters on June 30, 2010.
Juan Antonio Bayona is known for his work in horror mystery "The Orphanage", which has brought him a Best New Director title from the 2008 Goya Awards. The thirty-something filmmaker is also recognized as a protege of director Guillermo Del Toro. His name surfaced in public among the candidates for the behind-the-lens part at the same time Drew Barrymore confirmed that she is indeed being considered for directing "Eclipse".
