Stephen Sommers to Handle 'Tarzan'
Movie

The helmer of the first two 'Mummy' installments could be filling the shoes of Guillermo del Toro as 'Tarzan' director.

AceShowbiz -

American filmmaker Stephen Sommers is on the run for the director role of "Tarzan". Having done film project like "The Adventures of Huck Finn" and "The Jungle Book" in the past, he is said to be in talks with Warner Bros. Pictures to take the place of Guillermo del Toro, who was previously attached to the project.

Sommers' name came out in the director's list after del Toro, the "Pan's Labyrinth" director, made a four-year commitment for "The Hobbit". Though the negotiation for the director seat is still under way, Sommers has been tapped to develop the script along with "Collateral" scribe Stu Beattie.

For the new project, he and Beatie have been said to be taking a new approach in adapting the classic 1914 Edgar Rice Burroughs' "Tarzan, Lord of the Apes" hinting that it would be different from the Burroughs' version as well as previous films. Still, much of the movie's details are kept under tight wraps.
