AceShowbiz - Loud cheer and excitement were roaming high in the air around London's Leicester Square on Tuesday night (Nov. 27) upon spotting a number of Hollywood's celebrated figures at the world premiere for "The Golden Compass." Pic is New Line Cinema's latest fantasy adventure based on Philip Pullman's first book in "His Dark Materials" trilogy.
Principal cast members of the movie like Nicole Kidman, Daniel Craig, Eva Green, Sam Elliott, and newcomer Dakota Blue Richards were all present, displaying their bright smiles as they walked down the red carpet and posed for photographers. Kidman was caught to also bring along her country music star husband Keith Urban while Craig, who plays adventurer Lord Asriel in the flick, was accompanied by girlfriend Satsuki Mitchell.
Craig, a fan of the trilogy series, admitted to BBC News that he was keen to be in the film version and immediately grabbed it when the opportunity came along. At the same time, he also gave comment on the controversy surrounding the anti-religious reference in the movie, saying it has been "a bit blown out of proportion."
"That's the joke isn't it? Over here we're diluting it and in the States we're going too far. I think if you see the film there's nothing to worry about," he remarked.
Meanwhile, in expressing her great delight for beating out 10,000 hopefuls to play heroine Lyra Belacqua, Richards openly confessed that getting the role was a dream come true for her.
"I really, really wanted to play the role. My mum had read the books to me and I had seen the play at the National Theatre. I loved the character so much I wanted to be just like her," she explained.
Apart from the starry cast, some VIP guests were found to attend the glittering premiere as well, among others were British actor Hugh Grant, model Lily Cole, plus stars from "Harry Potter" movies Katie Leung and Evanna Lynch. "Compass" is slated to open on December 5 this year in the U.K. before hitting North American theaters on December 7.
