Movie

Film and TV director Steve Miner will helm Jessica Simpson's new starring vehicle "Major Movie Star" at Millennium Films.

Primarily known for making horror flicks, Steve Miner is now heading to a very contrasting genre for his next directorial film stint. That's right, the Westport-born filmmaker has agreed to helm comedy movie "Major Movie Star" that Millennium Films is preparing for Jessica Simpson to topline.

Story concerns a pampered star who boldly enrolls in the Marines to win approval from a producer and a studio who considers her unsuitable for an upcoming military-themed movie. Though she instantly realizes that her decision is a mistake upon arriving at Camp Pendleton, she determines to persist so she won't let her country down.

The project has been in the works for more than five years since Warner Bros. Pictures secured the rights to its spec script, written by April Blair. As a result, the list of those involved in a producing capacity has reached more than a dozen, led by Millennium's exec Avi Lerner along with Boaz Davidson, Danny Dimbort, and Trevor Short as well as Simpson's father Joe Simpson.
